The National Rain Forest
The El Yunque National Forest is the only tropical rain forest in the United States national forest system. The forest is managed by the US Forest Service who maintain an extensive network of hiking trails. At nearly 29,000 acres, it is one of the smallest in size, yet one of the most biologically diverse of the national forests hosting hundreds of animal and plant species, some of which are found only here. Most of El Yunque’s hikes are short, paved and relatively mild. Adventurers should note that there’s no true wilderness experience to be had here, however this doesn't take away from the beauty of this location.
